2014 Family Business Awards – Nominations Due July 25!

Does your family business, or one that you know, deserve to be recognized for a significant accomplishment or milestone this year? If so, please let us know so we can recognize their success at the 2014 Family Business Awards Program on November 7.

We are looking for family businesses or individuals that deserve recognition in the following award categories:

  • Communication – recognizes family businesses that have developed tools or strategies for effective communication within their company or with their family members regarding the business;
  • Community Engagement – recognizes family businesses that have made a significant contribution to the Central Ohio community;
  • Lifetime Achievement – recognizes family business leaders who have made a significant contribution to their industry or the Central Ohio business community;
  • Milestone Achievement – recognizes family businesses that have reached a significant milestone during 2014 (longevity, business, or other significant achievement);
  • Re-Invention – recognizes family businesses that have successfully adjusted their business strategy or focus to address a changing business climate or societal demands;
  • Succession Planning/Implementation – recognizes family businesses that have developed or completed a succession plan or transferred leadership;
  • Support of a Family Business – recognizes organizations or individuals that have shown support or demonstrated a commitment to the strength, success or longevity of a family firm.

We’ll send each nominated company an application form and let them know you submitted their name. It’s a great way to recognize a client, customer, or peer for their hard work. Family Business Scholarships Provide Support for ODU Students

Two scholarships at Ohio Dominican University have been established to support the educational goals of students whose family owns a family business. The Maish Scholarship generously sponsored by Judy and Tom Maish is a merit-based scholarship that is awarded to an Ohio Dominican student whose family has a family business and who may work in that business after graduation. Michaela Liddane, who has worked in her family’s business, Special Kids, Inc., is the third recipient of the scholarship. She was awarded the annually renewable scholarship in 2012 and continues to pursue her education at ODU.

The Conway Endowed Family Business Scholarship Fund has been funded this year and will support and encourage growth and succession of family businesses in Central Ohio. Starting in fall 2015, Ohio Dominican University will award the Conway Scholarship to one first-year student every four years as long as the student meets the requirements of the scholarship. The Conway Scholarship is made possible by a generous gift to ODU from the James Conway Family.
